Most of us use hair products. Hairsprays, hair gel, mud, clay, mouse etc. etc. As helpful as these products may be, they do actually take a toll on your hair and if not cleansed correctly can lead to unnecessary hair loss.

I'm sure if you speak to most ppl, they'll tell you they're washing their hair correctly. I mean how hard can it get right? Shampoo then conditioner!

Well there is actually a few basics which ppl should know in order to keep ur hair correctly cleansed and maintain it's volume and shine ~

Below are my basic steps in hair cleansing, keep in mind I use a lot of hair products like hairspray ~ for those who don't use such products then skip step 1 ;)

STEP 1
Those of you who use a lot of hair products: Before rinsing your hair in water, comb in a layer of conditioner. Make sure the conditioner is evenly combed into your hair, then rinse with water.

Conditioner is oil based and can help break down hair products like hairsprays, clay, gel etc. If you do this before applying shampoo you can save yourself a lot of time and you'll feel the smoothness in your hair right after.

STEP 2
ALWAYS shampoo twice! I know some of you are lazy but honestly 1 time doesn't clean it properly.

First time: quick shampoo then rinse.

Second time: massage shampoo evenly on hair and scalp and leave the shampoo on for a good 3-5 minutes. Why? It's like washing your clothes. When you soak your dirty clothes in soap it cleans better without you having to tear your clothes apart.

Note: When massaging PLEASE DON'T scratch it like crazy. or If you have OILY hair, do not over massage your hair. This actually irritates your scalp and creates excess oil after. Instead just use your fingers and press down on ur scalp giving it pressure.

STEP 3
Apply conditioner and if you have time and want smoother shinier hair then leave conditioner in for a good 3-5 minutes then rinse clean with water.

DON'Ts: For those who like to tip their head upside down when washing thats a big no no! You should always tilt your head backwards and rinse with the water running from the top of your head down. Because if you wash with your head upside down, instead of rinsing the dirt away, the run of the water will bring the dirt towards the top of ur head and all the dirt/soap etc is basically just ending up in the hair pores which in turn can effect hair growth.

So that's my little haircare 101 ~ Have a great weekend everyone!
